Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they signify for your website?
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which can be accessed only if a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized people can view its content. This function may be used for the main folder of a given site or only for a certain subfolder based on your needs. For instance, when you are building a new Internet site and you do not want people to see it before it's ready, you need to prohibit the access to it as a whole, whereas if you need only some people to be able to access certain files, you can password-protect only a specific folder, while the other parts of the site can be seen by anybody. In any case, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear in the event that the login details the visitor inputs are not correct. Even a direct link to a file won't work so long as any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Web Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take only a few mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites in a cloud web hosting account with our company. You'll not have to do anything difficult - you will need to choose a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it has to be protected, and then to enter the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. When a number of people need their own login credentials, there shall not be a problem to create a variety of different usernames with access to the very same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will always know where this function is active. If you want to turn off the security function for any folder, you can disable it from the very same section of the CP where you have enabled it.
